SkillsUSA Texas teaches the importance of developing leadership skills, positive attitudes and pride in workmanship, by helping students associate schoolwork with real work. SkillsUSA Texas also prepares students for employment by introducing them to corporate quality culture, and emphasizes respect for the dignity of work, high standards in trade ethics, superior workmanship, quality and safety.
The mission of SkillsUSA Texas is to provide opportunities for its members to become successful and productive citizens, employees and leaders, accomplished through a structured program of leadership training activities, communication and business partnerships. To facilitate this mission, SkillsUSA Texas empowers its members by offering several Leadership Development and Skilled events.

Each SkillsUSA Texas District conducts a Fall Leadership Conference providing opportunities for students to learn leadership skills, meet industry leaders, and meet other students from all over their district. These conferences are without a doubt, the best leadership training available for ALL members, non-members, and advisors. The purpose is to train potential local and state officers, but everyone is encouraged to attend. Check the calendar for information and dates for each district event.
Members from across Texas may travel to Austin to represent their CTE programs to our State Legislatures at the Capitol. Training may include communication, parliamentary procedure, advocacy training, and House Rules for students and advisors. Student leaders may gain access to the Texas House floor where they perform mock legislation and debate proposed bills, followed by meetings with their Texas Representatives.
SkillsUSA Texas Championships
The SkillsUSA Championships brings together industry and labor representatives, educators, and the public to watch students compete in leadership and hands-on skill events for a full day. The SkillsUSA Championships begin at the local level with contests in classrooms nationwide. Attended by more than 10,000 students, teachers, parents, and industry representatives, the state Conference and SkillsUSA Championships include over 120 contests, a technical education trade show, Professional Development sessions, a career fair, and much more. Winners advance through district and state competition, and the best of the best make it to the national event.
This leadership conference is designed for district and state officers. Training includes team building, public speaking, time management, etiquette, parliamentary procedure, and planning and organizing a chapter meeting. Students have an opportunity to earn their SkillsUSA Texas Stateman – the highest honor a member can achieve in SkillsUSA Texas.
SkillsUSA offers advanced training for students and advisors that focuses on professionalism, communication and leadership skills. This training is held in Washington, D.C., and allows members the opportunity to share their SkillsUSA and career and technical experiences with elected officials. WLTI activities will include:
- Congressional visits
- Tours of Washington D.C., including monuments
- Laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns
- Visit to the National Leadership Center
SkillsUSA heads to Atlanta, Ga., for the annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), a showcase of career and technical education students. More than 19,000 people — including students, teachers, and business partners — are expected to participate in the weeklong event.
The WorldSkills Competition (WSC) is a thrilling showcase of the world’s most talented and skilled young professionals. Held every two years by the WorldSkills organization, the WSC brings together the best and brightest from over 80 countries to compete in a variety of skilled trades. It’s a celebration of the diversity and excellence of skills that drive the global economy, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for competitors to demonstrate their mastery while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in their respective fields.
